Defining and changing pay bands
Add a for each grade you pay against, and change it when your ranges move. You need the System Admin or Total Rewards Admin . To bring in many bands at once, see Importing pay bands.
Add a band
Section titled “Add a band”- In the sidebar, under Organization, select Pay bands.
- Select Add band. A new row appears in the table.
- Fill in the row, then select Save below the table. The band is listed with its derived min, mid and max.
You can add or edit as many rows as you like before you save. Save saves them together, in one go: either every row is saved or none is. A save carries at most 100 rows.
New rows above the table sets the currency and the every row you add afterwards starts with.
What a band needs
Section titled “What a band needs”| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Grade | Required. The that matches employees to this band. Case and spacing don’t matter, so e2 and E2 are the same grade, and each grade has one band. |
| Label | A name for the grade, such as Engineer II. |
| Level | A number for where the grade sits in your ladder. |
| Currency | Required. The band prices only employees paid in this currency. |
| Midpoint | Required, above zero. The middle of the range. |
| Spread | Required, above zero. How much wider the maximum is than the minimum, as a percentage of the minimum. |
The minimum and maximum are worked out from the midpoint and the spread, with the midpoint halfway between them. A midpoint of 120,000 USD with a 45% spread gives a range of about 97,959 to 142,041 USD.
A row without a grade code, a currency, a midpoint above zero or a spread above zero says what is missing, and Save stays off until every row is complete. If the save is refused, for instance because the grade already has a band, nothing is saved and every row stays as you left it.
Change a band
Section titled “Change a band”Select the edit control on the band’s row, change it, and select Save. Select Cancel instead to discard every unsaved row, or the row’s own discard control to put just that band back. Employees in that grade are measured against the new range from then on. A cycle that has already launched keeps the range it took at launch.
Delete a band
Section titled “Delete a band”Select the delete control on the band’s row, then Delete to confirm. A delete takes effect at once and does not need Save; your other unsaved rows are kept. When employees are in the grade, the confirmation says how many: they are left with no range in future cycles, while cycles already launched keep theirs. See Handling employees without a pay band.
