Reviewing a rollup worksheet

Read the plans the managers beneath you have submitted, and correct a merit increase where you need to, before you approve or return them. You need your open — see The rollup worksheet, explained.

  1. In the sidebar, select , choose the Rollup tab, and choose the cycle in Cycle.
  2. Start from Awaiting your decision, which counts the sections waiting on you, and Outside , which counts the proposals worth a closer look.
  3. Expand a manager’s section.

For each person, check:

  • Merit against Guidance, the increase the suggested. Merit reads as an amount with its percentage under it, and the percentage is measured on the person’s base after any promotion. No guidance means the cycle offered none for that person.
  • Promotion, when the manager proposed one — the amount and its percentage, the new grade and the new title.
  • Guardrails, the verdict: Within guardrails, Above guardrail or Below guardrail.
  • Reason, the and the manager gave. Every proposal outside the guardrails and every promotion carries both, because the manager couldn’t submit without them — see Providing a rationale.
  • Proposed base, and the total increase beneath it, against Current base and the .

If the section lists a pool under its line, such as Merit $3,717 past the soft limit, that team went past the pool’s limit. Read the note under it, which the manager wrote when they submitted, before you decide. No note means the pool went past its soft limit after the manager submitted, for example because the limit was lowered, and the section is flagged Merit pool note owed. A ’ own Rollup note appears on their for the Final Approver — see Approving or returning a worksheet.

Then read the section’s Approval history. On a worksheet that’s been returned before, the earlier round shows who returned it and why, so you can see whether the manager made the change. A section no one has decided yet says No decision has been recorded on this section yet.

When a worksheet is waiting on you, you can also open it in full, from Needs you on Home or from its notification. It opens read-only, with a notice that it’s waiting on your decision, and selecting a person’s row opens their details under it, with everything the manager saw while planning. Rows open and page as they do for the manager, and nothing in the details can be changed. You can approve or return it from its header too.

While a section’s worksheet is Submitted, you can change a person’s merit increase from the rollup, without sending the whole worksheet back:

  1. In the expanded section, find the person’s Merit cell. It holds two fields side by side, the amount and the percentage, and its tooltip reads Adjust [name]‘s merit.
  2. Type the new figure in whichever field you prefer: an amount in the person’s , or a percentage between 0 and 100 in steps of 0.5.
  3. Leave the field. Saving… then Saved appears beside Worksheets at the top of the page, the other field fills in with the figure it comes to, and the row’s other figures are worked out again. If the change can’t be saved, both fields go back to their saved values and a message says why. If you close the tab with a change still in a field, your browser asks before it closes.

The figure you typed is the one that holds, as it is on the manager’s worksheet. Adjust a $2,000 line to $1,500 and it reads $1,500 with the percentage worked out from it; adjust it to 1.5% instead and the percentage stays 1.5% with the amount worked out from it.

The row is marked Adjusted. The manager is notified, and their worksheet names who adjusted which person’s merit amount or percentage, whichever you typed, and what it changed from and to. The adjustment is recorded on the audit trail under your name, with the figure you typed and the other one beside it.

Only a manager above the worksheet’s owner can adjust it. Merit is the only figure you can change, so a promotion’s amount and a bonus read as the manager entered them; for anything else, return the worksheet — see Approving or returning a worksheet.
